March 2026 – Meningitis B Concerns

We are aware of recent media coverage and discussions regarding the Meningitis B (MenB) vaccine, and that patients have begun contacting the practice with queries.

We would like to clarify the current position within the NHS.

At present, there is no MenB vaccination programme for adults available as part of the NHS vaccination schedule. Unfortunately, this means the practice is unable to offer the vaccine to adult patients.

The MenB vaccine was introduced into the routine childhood immunisation schedule on 1 May 2015. As a result:

  • Teenagers and young adults born before 1 May 2015 will not have received the MenB vaccine as part of the routine schedule.

  • The MenB vaccine is now routinely offered to babies at:

    • 8 weeks

    • 12 weeks

    • 12 months

  • Eligible children will be automatically invited for vaccination as part of their routine immunisations.

If you have concerns about meningitis symptoms or believe someone may be unwell, please seek urgent medical advice.

For further information about meningitis and vaccinations, please visit the NHS website.

Thank you for your understanding.
